The 22nd annual Harvest Festival on Saturday promises to be a good time, but it's the chance for rain that has event organizers crossing their fingers.
“Hopefully we get some good weather,” said Maleet Gordon, one of the organizers.
Rain or shine, the annual community festival is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 on Broad and Thorn streets. The festival includes more than 135 vendors as well as local churches and non-profits hosting special events in conjunction with the Harvest festivities.
In addition to food, arts and crafts, and other children’s activities, traditional highlights include the open house at the Cochran Hose Fire Station, a child-safety program from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the police department, free metered parking and live music all day.
“There is some good entertainment lined up,” Gordon said.
One of the best parts, she said, is the annual festival brings the entire community together.
“We have the sidewalk sale by the merchants in Sewickley, and then all the churches all are doing flea markets. There’s the Day on the Lawn, (St. Matthews) AME has the ribs and chicken that are fabulous… It involves the whole town,” Gordon said.
The event is presented by the Quaker Valley Rotary and Kiwanis Club of Sewickley. Sponsors include Heritage Valley Health System, Sewickley Savings Bank, Energy Independent Solutions, Renewal by Anderson, Sewickley Eye Group and Comcast.
