Fire officials are investigating a possible arson in Sewickley following an early Sunday blaze at a vacant two-story house.

Cochran Hose Co. Fire Chief Jeff Neff said the fire at 874 Farren St. is a total loss and the cause looks suspicious.

“It’s undetermined, but it looks like somebody lighted a house on fire,” he said.

The home off Dickson Road was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived about 3:30 a.m. Sunday. He said the fire appeared to have started in the left front corner of the home.

Neff said a tenant moved out a month or so ago, so no one was living in the home. He was unable to immediately identify the new owner.

According to Allegheny County Assessment records, the property belongs to Fedele Properties LLC and is assessed at $83,900.

Firefighters from Aleppo Township, Leetsdale and Moon Township assisted.

Neff said they were able to control the flames to protect exposure to neighboring properties.

“We were able to keep it contained to that house,” he said.

That's really sad that someone would take it upon themself to destroy someone else's property.
