Burning to Shine: Quaker Valley Class of 2012 Graduates

Quaker Valley High School graduated 185 seniors in the Class of 2012.

has sent forth another class of young men and women to make their mark on the world.

The Class of 2012 graduated Monday night during a commencement ceremony at  Sewall Center.

Casey Lally, Nathaniel Fox and Connyre Corbett gave inspiring commencement addresses as honored student speakers.

Performances included choral selections from the Commencement Choir and the Star Spangled Banner by Joseph Daval, Edward Miller, Johnathan Roppo and Benjamin Torisky of the Quaker Valley Barbershop Quartet.

Keeping with tradition, Casey Lally, Timothy Pusateri and Emily Tusick presented High School English teacher Kerry McGrath with the designation as this year's honored teacher.

Principal Andrew Surloff and School Board member Debbie Miller offered the graduates inspiring advice as did Superintendent Joseph Clapper, who also listed the many accomplishments of the students in the Class of 2012, including:

  • last week named Quaker Valley one of the top high schools in the nation.
  • Earleir this spring, the ranked Quaker Valley High School one of the top schools in the region.
  • For the eighth year in a row, .
  • 94 of the 185 seniors have taken at least one Advanced Placement course during their studies at Quaker Valley.
  • Nearly 30 students from the Class of 2012 took four or more AP courses.
  • One graduate has been named a .
  • In the fine arts, students participated in district, region and state bands, chorus and orchestra. 
  • Quaker Valley earned for its presentation of with one graduate earning Best Supporting Actor.
  • In athletics, students have competed in championship competitions, including two seniors who won , one for the second year in a row.

The Class of 2012 was offered $5,471,670 in scholarships.
