Chiropractor Launches Food Drive in Sewickley

Steven Legault, DC from Sewickley Chiropractic Center promotes wellness for the body as well as the mind through 'Give and Receive' food drive.

When Dr. Steven Legault started his food drive "Give and Receive" for the food bank, he was reminded of his own struggles growing up.

Raised in New Castle, Legault did not come from a very privileged background.

He's looking for a way to give back.

"Our community's always in need of food. We don't only have to donate around Thanksgiving time," Legault said.

He says that right now the food pantry is in particular need of high-nutrient foods and soft meats such as tuna and chicken.

When a patient brings 5 pounds worth of food with them to an appointment at his office, Legault will offer reduced rates for the patient's evaluation, spinal X-rays and first adjustment. His offices at the Sewickley are at 409 Broad St.

"I prefer the food to be donated personally, so as to meet the donators and give them chiropractic care, but contributions are welcome to be given directly to the SCC in my name."

Legault will donate a portion of the money to , the scholarship campaign at the.

Legault knew what it was like to pay a lot of loans back, and he wants to help others avoid that by making it a part of his drive.

He called the drive "Give and Receive" because "the more you give, the more you honestly receive, he said.

"If you're static in your life, you don't really get anything out of it," he said.

With this motivation in mind, the ultimate goal is to tie together the idea of emotional and physical well-being and "to improve overall bodily function."

"By donating, you can also help yourself by getting chiropractic care to improve your life," Legault said.

Legault hopes that reduced rates will help to make the drive a success.

"I'm trying to light a fire. The more you give, the more you benefit."
