Elderly Motorist Taken to Hospital After Aleppo Crash
Ohio Township police said 86-year-old Fred Degroot's vehicle sideswiped a Catepillar construction vehicle.
An 86-year-old Sewickley man was transported to Heritage Valley Sewickley hospital Monday after his car sideswiped a construction vehicle in Aleppo Township.
Ohio Township police reported that the driver, Fred Degroot Jr., 86, of Sewickley, suffered minor injuries in the crash.
The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. while Degroot's car traveled down the 900 block of Glen Mitchell Road in Aleppo.
Police said a man operating a Catepillar pavement roller was also going down the road, traveling halfway on the berm and the road.
Police said the roller did not have any lights on making it hard for Degroot to see it in the rainy conditions.
Degroot's car sideswiped the roller and forced it into a hillside. The operator, whom police did not name, jumped off safely. He was not injured, police said.
Aleppo Volunteer Fire Department and Valley Ambulance assisted.
