Sewickley Cafe Welcomes Pets for Yappy Lunch
Every Saturday in June, July and August, the Sewickley Cafe will open the patio to pets for lunch in the garden.
When Sewickley Café owner Don Reinhardt opened his restaurant patio to dogs during Sewickley Unleashed two weeks ago, he couldn’t be sure what to expect.
Reinhardt said the Sewickley Café ended up hosting 15 dogs on the outdoor garden patio that day.
“It went over well,” Reinhardt said.
His idea to welcome four-legged patrons for one special day led to an even better idea: the Yappy Lunch.
Starting today, pet owners are invited to bring their dogs for lunch in the restaurant garden. As a pet owner with a soft spot for Golden Retrievers, Reindhardt knows that dogs are considered part of the family in many households.
Reinhardt said the patio will be open to dogs every Saturday in June, July and August to help raise money for the Beaver County Humane Society.
The Beaver County Humane Society in Center Township has been working for about a decade to relocate to a new shelter and is preparing to move into a new $2 million building.
Through capital funds and a loan, construction was able to begin last year, but the non-profit is still in need of money and is always seeking donations.
Reinhardt said proceeds raised from the Yappy Lunch will go to the charity.

I don't think dogs or any animal, unless its a helping aid, should be aloud in a restaurant. It simply isn't hygienic! The fact that the animals are sitting in chairs that human patrons do is gross & shouldn't be aloud. What is Don's solution to the "accidents" these animals have while people are eating? These are the hotest mo. of the yr & the stench could be nauseating! Allowing pets in a dining area is a VERY BAD IDEA!!!!!

Good Idea Stan! :)
Leave those who think it's "dirty" to eat outside with their PET not a wild animal go to other conventional restaurants.... as for me, I can't wait to go to Yappy Lunch! :)

I love the idea. Thankfully, for those who don't like the idea, there are other eateries in the village. :)

As long as patrons help to keep the area clean I see No Problem with Patrons pets being there !!!

I contacted the state Department of Agriculture to clarify some of the concerns. The law allows dogs at restaurants if the pets are in an outside area that is not served by wait staff, the exclusion being service dogs. One example that comes to mind would be the outdoor seating area at Crazy Mocha or the Panera restaurants.
