When/Where: 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at the Sewickley Public Library.
Why Go: Spend an afternoon at a movie. A Place in the Sun is about a poor boy gets a job working for his rich uncle and ends up falling in love with two women. (1951, 122min, NR) Adult program. No registration is necessary.
When/Where: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 in the cafeteria at St. James School.
Why Go: Pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs,will be served along with coffee, tea and orange juice will be served. Proceeds benefit the St. James School eighth-grade class.
Admission: Adults are $5, children under 5 are $3
When/Where: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at Fern Hollow Nature Center in Sewickley Heights.
Why Go: Get out into the nighttime air and talk to the owls. The owl prowls are led by members of Fern Hollow Nature Center’s environmental education staff.
Admission: $4 members/ $7 non-members. Geared for ages 9 and up. Registration is limited. You must call 412-741-7536.
When/Where: 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Sidelines Beer House, Sewickley.
Why Go: Kick off the Pens season with a beer-tasting tailgate. The tasting includes 12 beer samples, an appetizer plate, a four-pack to take home, and some giveaways, plus demonstrations, activities, contests and pet adoptions. The event benefits the Animal Rescue League.
