Giant Eagle, Allegra Offer Free Allergy Screenings

Giant Eagle in Village at Pine will host screening Saturday.

Does fall give you that ah-choo feeling?

Giant Eagle and Allegra have teamed up to offer free in-store allergy screenings. The nearest Giant Eagle screening will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Village at Pine grocery store. Participants must be 18 or older.

A small blood sample will be collected by a simple fingerstick and then sent to a lab for analysis, according to Giant Eagle's website.

"The laboratory tests for the 10 most common allergens, including: milk, wheat, egg, cat dander, timothy grass, Bermuda grass, mountain cedar, ragweed, mold, dust mite," the website explains.

Patients will receive the results via mail within three weeks.

"Patients with positive results for any of the allergens indicated will receive a personalized allergy plan with action items to help alleviate symptoms," the website said. "Share your results with your doctor to develop a treatment plan for allergy relief."

While the Giant Eagle in Leetsdale isn't scheduled to host any screenings, a number of other Giant Eagles will throughout the month. For a list of other Giant Eagle locations where screenings will take place, click here.

Allegra is a drug that eases allergy symptoms.
