Joseph Anthony Ciferri, age 95, a resident of Masonic Village since 2006, formerly of Sewickley, Coraopolis and Springdale, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Masonic Village.

He was born in Springdale, PA on August 9, 1916 to the late Erasmo and Antonia ( Zegaralle) Ciferri. Beloved husband for17 years to the late Genevieve “Gen” (Wilk) Homich Ciferri; loving stepfather of Anita Homich Peterson (Richard “Pete”) of Carbondale, IL, Fred Homich (Paulette) of Los Angeles, CA; and Daniel C. Homich (Ginny) of Sewickley; step-grandfather of Anne Peterson Hutto (David), Amy Peterson Marshall(Dean), Stephen Peterson (Anna), Jessica Homich, Jonathan Homich, Katie Homich Mihalyi (Tim), and Daniel Charles Homich; step-great grandfather to 3.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings Elizabeth and Ralph Ciferri.

Joe was a retired operator for Duquesne Light at the nuclear power plant in Shippingport.

He was a faithful member of St. James Church and the 55+. He was a much honored volunteer for Sewickley Valley Hospital accumulating more than 46,000 hours since 1987.

Awards include 2005 Citation from State Representative Mark Mustio for outstanding service and dedication.

In 2009, Joe received the Jefferson Award - a national recognition for public service in America.

Visitation is Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Copeland's Sewickley, 702 Beaver St. Everyone please meet at St. James Church, 200 Walnut St., Sewickley, PA 15143 for Mass on Tuesday 10 AM. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
