Leetsdale Police Enforce Parking Restrictions

More than 300 drivers have been ticketed this week for violating no-parking rules.

If you plan to visit Quaker Valley High School, even for a few minutes, you may want to pay attention to the posted traffic signs before parking your vehicle.

Leetsdale Police Chief James Santucci is warning motorists that officers will ticket drivers who park in no-parking zones.

“Leetsdale Police will be enforcing all parking regulations around the high school,” Santucci said.

Leetsdale Police started ticketing Monday and as of Friday had written 350 parking tickets, $15 a pop for those who violate the law. The tickets include a number of violators outside the high school as well as street sweeping violations.

Police received several complaints from residents who live in the 600 and 700 blocks of Beaver Road. School officials also complained to police when a number of vehicles parked in the fire lane at the back of the high school during a concert.

Santucci said the cars were “double parked like it was New York City.”

Many violators have been none too pleased to find the yellow tickets on their windshields, but Santucci said the violations boil down to a safety issue.

He said Beaver Street bottlenecks in the area of the high school toward Village Drive, where illegally parked vehicles make it harder for cars and buses to travel through. As a result, he said buses have collided and there have been hit and run reports.

“In order to maintain the safety of the people who come to our community, we need them to park in the school lot,” he said.
