Marcela Valladolid—author of cookbooks, television star, magazine editor and expert in Mexican cuisine—will make a special appearance and demonstrate recipes for authentic Mexican dishes at the Wexford and Bethel Park Market District stores on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Valladolid’s appearance is free to the public; however, tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Advance ticket registration is available online at marketdistrict.com.
Born in San Diego and raised in Tijuana, Mexico, Marcela began her culinary life at a young age. Her grandfather was a chef and her aunt opened one of the first cooking schools in Tijuana.
Marcela later studied at the Los Angeles Culinary Institute, until she graduated as a classical French pastry chef from the Ritz Escoffier Cooking School in Paris.
Marcela’s passion for food eventually landed her an editor job at Bon Appétit magazine. She was later cast on The Apprentice: Martha Stewart, where she came in fourth.
In 2009, Marcela wrote her first cookbook, Fresh Mexico: 100 Simple Recipes for True Mexican Flavor. In the book, she shatters the misconceptions about Mexican cuisine. For example, Marcela always says, “There is no yellow cheese in real Mexican cooking.”
In addition to taping her cooking show on Discover en Espanol, called Relatos con Sabor, Marcela runs a catering company, teaches culinary arts to private groups in Tijuana and San Diego and raises her four-year-old son Fausto.
