Quaker Valley Grad Stars in 'Flashdance The Musical'

The hit musical runs through Sunday at Heinz Hall.

A Sewickley native and Quaker Valley High School graduate is starring in the world premiere of Flashdance The Musical, according to WPXI.

Matthew Hydzik has been in several Broadway shows and Broadways tours, but told WPXI he never had a connection to a show like he has with Flashdance, a musical about female welder Alex Owens striving to become a professional dancer.

"It's surreal doing this project back home," Hydzik told WPXI. "I had my family, my in-laws, my wife and my teachers in the audience (Thursday).

The musical, just like the 1983 box office hit, is set in Pittsburgh. Hydzik plays Nick Hurley, the owner of a steel mill. Hydzik's father, grandfather and even grandmother also worked in Pittsburgh steel mills.

The musical features a score of smash hits including the Academy Award-winning title track “Flashdance—What a Feeling," "Maniac," and "I Love Rock & Roll."

The show runs through Sunday at Heinz Hall. Get tickets and show information here.

This was a great show. Watching a home town actor added to the fun!
