Quaker Valley Middle School Renovation Update
Renovation is on target.
Things are right on schedule for the Quaker Valley Middle School renovation project, according to Dr. Joseph Clapper, superintendent of the district.
“We are online in terms of our projection for moving into the building on January 7, 2013,” he said.
The renovation project is “going very, very well,” according to Clapper.
The project includes three main additions: A – a brand new Wellness Center which will be located next to the gymnasium and outfitted in a variety of fitness equipment; B – an integrated arts wing for the band, chorus, arts, Family Consumer and IT classes; and C – a new 500-seat auditorium.
The renovation project also includes a new heating and air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems.
“We are also putting in a new artificial turf and building a new retaining wall between the field and the road. The current wall is crumbling, so we really need the new wall,” he said.
For the first four months of the academic year, students will continue the same schedule and attend the same schools that they did for the 2011- 2012 academic year.
Despite the inconveniences, it will all be worth it once the new facility is complete, said Clapper.
“It is a huge, gigantic project, but is will create a phenomenal facility for decades to come,” he said.
The renovated building that was originally built in 1926 will also add value to the community.
“With the new field, Wellness Center and auditorium, our community will be able to take advantage of the facility as well,” he said, “Everyone will benefit.”
