QV Kindergarten Round Up Planned

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend an orientation meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Edgeworth Elementary

Prospective 2012-13 kindergarten students and their parents or caregivers are urged to attend the annual Kindergarten Round-up Feb. 20-24 at .

Adults are encouraged to attend an orientation meeting for parent/caregivers only (no children, please) at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 at Edgeworth Elementary to learn more about the kindergarten program. Attendees will receive a registration packet to complete and take to the Round Up appointment.

District resident children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2012, are eligible for kindergarten registration at the Round Up event.

Parents or caregivers and prospective students will meet a kindergarten teacher for preliminary readiness screening and tips for working with students before and after school begins, an assistant school nurse to record immunization and health information and answer questions about individual health problems in the school setting, a parent representative to discuss parent/school partnership and opportunities for parent involvement and a librarian to advise on book selection and fostering an appreciation for literature. If needed, a guidance counselor will be available to answer questions about school and discuss developmental concerns.

The Kindergarten Round Up provides an opportunity for parents and children to lay the groundwork for a successful kindergarten experience. This opportunity will not be offered again before the start of the 2012-2013 school year.

Parents or caregivers must make an appointment for one of the Round Up days by calling Diane Hess at the district office 412-749-5095.  Appointments will last about 30 minutes and can be made for any time between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
