Sewickley Soup Crawl Returns for St. Patrick's Day
Tickets to the second annual event are now on sale. Limited entries are also being accepted for Sewickley's 2013 "Best Souper Chef" contest.
Get ready for a food tasting journey.
The Sewickley Soup Crawl returns on Saturday, March 16, when participants will have a chance to roam charming neighborhood retailers while tasting a range of signature homemade soups.
Alex DeLoia of Village Green Partners said the second annual event will again pair local restaurant cooks with various retailers in the downtown business district. The restaurants will serve their soups out of the retailers, DeLoia said.
"Each attendant, when you register, will get a map with all of the soups labeled," DeLoia said.
Soups that are tasted will be marked off the list, and once complete, participants can cast a vote for their favorite dish to choose the winner of the Golden Ladle.
The day will begin at Wolcott Park where attendees will first check in. DeLoia said individuals are asked to bring a canned good, which will be donated to the Sewickley Community Center food pantry.
Tickets for the crawl are currently being sold online. DeLoia said about 100 tickets had been sold as of last week.
If you'd like to show off your culinary skills, the event also includes the "Souper Chef Contest."
The rules are easy. Just make a pot of your best soup, enter it into the contest, and a panel of local judges will decide if you should be the 2013 reigning champion, with the title of "Sewickley’s Best Souper Chef."
"We’ll have a panel of local celebrities who will be judging the soup contest," DeLoia said.
'Souper Chef' entry is $10 and only 25 spots are open. To enter your soup, register online an email to firstname.lastname@example.org that includes your name, address, phone number, email address and the soup you'll be entering.
Soup Crawl tickets are $10 for adults 18 and up; $5 for ages 10 to 17; and free for 9 and under, who must be accompanied by an adult. A find-the-leprechaun Scavenger Hunt will also be available for kids in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.
If available, $15 tickets on the day of the event can be purchased at Wolcott Park.
