St. James Wins Boys Basketball Championship
It was a hard fought final game, but in the end the Cougars defense was just too much for St. Joseph’s.
The St. James Catholic School boys basketball team won the championship title Wednesday night against St. Joseph of Verona.
The Cougars overcame St. Joe's with a final score of 45-24 at Our Lady of Grace in Mt. Lebanon in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh junior varsity finals.
The team of fifth- and sixth-graders consists of Brock Saftner, John Auth, Luke Saftner, Nathan Cullo, Quinn Hill, Jackson Zernich, Tom Peilert, Anthony DiFolco, Jack Cullo and Johnathon Nicolaus.
Coaches are Christian Zernich, Clay Saftner and Len Cullo.
St. James of Sewickley made history this season, garnering three strong victories to make it into the finals and to ultimately win the championship.
