Visions for Vacancies: Sewickley Country Inn
What would you like to see in the former Sewickley Country Inn location?
Film star Tom Cruise's movie shoot for the action film "One Shot" is some of the biggest action the Sewickley County Inn has seen in awhile.
MCM Ventures Ltd proposed razing the Country Inn, which sits on a four-acre site, and replacing the former hotel and restaurant with two office buildings along the Route 65 portion, and 14 single-family homes along the Thorn Street side.
But the deteriorating property along busy Ohio River Boulevard (Route 65) in Sewickley has remained tied up in litigation since 2009 over a zoning variance. Both sides are awaiting a Commonwealth Court ruling from a panel of three judges.
The Country Inn was a fixture in the community for about 50 years, serving as a hotel, restaurant and bar, and banquet facility.
What would you like to see at the old Country Inn site? Tell us in the comments.

I think the proposed uses are just fine; certainly much better than the current eyesore that goes unused.
Another option that I thought would be nice is to take advantage of the size of the old motel rooms to offer very, very low-priced office space to small businesses and startups - somewhat of an incubator model.

I really like the incubator idea for start-ups. There are cafe type places in Europe that will rent out tables to people who need to keep office hours. So for maybe two or three hours, a person can rent a spot to have an alternative place to meet clients.

Best plan would be to raze the existing property and build another hotel/restaurant-bar/banquet facility to serve area businesses, Robert Morris University's Moon Township campus, visitors to area residents, etc., etc. It would also prove beneficial to businesses and restaurants in the Village, as folks staying at "The New Sewickley Country Inn" would undoubtedly walk up the street and leave some money behind.

A small hotel would be ideal. It would give local businesses a place to host out of town guest without having to send them to Neville Island or the Airport area.

A small hotel would be great, when we have family from out of the area they end up staying in Cranberry.
