Who won last night's debate?

Most voters will probably agree that Thursday night's vice presidential debate was far more interesting than last week's first round of presidential debates this election.

Both candidates came out swinging and didn't let up. Even if you opted to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers lose to the Tennessee Titans first, you've probably had time by now to watch the debate on your DVR or check out news reports of the highlights.

The next debate returns the focus to presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney at Hofstra University in New York on Tuesday, Oct. 16. The debate begins at 9 p.m.

Who do you think won Thursday night's debate? Do you think it will sway independent voters? Tell us your thoughts in the comments, below.

Biden was disrespectful not only to Paul Ryan and moderator, Martha Raddatz, but also to the American public who deserve more than blatant lies and a crass, arrogant, smarmy used car salesman approach. Biden lied when he said he had not voted for the Iraq and Afghan wars (check the Congressional record), and he lied when he said that the Administration was not aware that our Libyan ambassor had requested increased security (Listen to the evidence coming out in the current Congressional hearings). What's worse is that Biden was sneering and guffawing when Ryan was addressing the issue of our Libyan embassy and the four murdered American citizens! Regardless of political party, Joe Biden's behavior was embarrassing to me as an American!

Nobody won. It was awful the way Biden acted, and that is what will always be remembered about this debate.

Subject wise it was a tie. The biggest clown award goes to Biden. And the Steelers are not a good football team this year.

During a debate that should have been serious (in order for the American public to not waist their time,) Joe Biden made a mockery of the voters' intelligence. Constantly laughing, interrupting and trying to belittle is beneath the Office of the VP. Paul Ryan remained professional and tried to explain a position while Bidens' only position was to discredit. If you don't have a good record to stand on, just toss out so many lies you confuse the issues - and laugh immaturely all the time!

I agree Donna, I think it was pretty much even. It was a little more entertaining, however, and I liked that. -- I expected that from these two.

Can anyone tell me why the moderator got more involved as the debate went on....cutting off Paul Ryan and adding commentary. I thought she started out ok, but as the debate progressed she went out of the moderator role and became a participant.

Biden reminded me of the guy you meet in a bar who has had a few drinks and thinks he is an expert on everything........nothing less than a bully. That is a shame, because, over the years, Biden's record as a middle-of-the-road Democrat has been quite exceptional. It seems that being close to Obama for 4 years has proven the adage that you become a product of your environment.

The liberal media considers it a smashing victory, any time Joe Biden does not say something that loses them millions of voters. Biden the baffoon, with his clowning personna and diatribe
of outright lies, incurred the wrath of
Americans from Miami to Nevada.
Any logical minded American realizes,
Joking Joes performance, was a laugher.
A disaster of major proportions.

Clearly Ryan was the winner ... He stuck to the issues, he has a plan for the future and has class ,unlike his opponent .

Joe Biden offered specific information, Paul Ryan did not. One was strident and the other mechanical. It was a decent 'debate' with an excellent moderator.

Please, Marty, I would love to know what Joe Biden & Barrack Obama's specific plans are for the next 4 years. I heard NOTHING about what they plan to do. All I heard from Joe was what they had supposedly done this last 4 years and lies about what the Romney plan is for the economy. I am so sick of hearing the same tired line from the left about this issue. At least Romney & Ryan have said that they have a general framework and plan to work with both Republicans and Democrats to pound out the details. And if that fails, then they have the Paul Ryan budget, which was VERY specific and was already presented to Congress, to fall back on. At least that's better than the 3 straight years the Obama Administration has NOT EVEN PASSED A BUDGET AT ALL EVEN THOUGH IT IS REQUIRED BY CONSTITUTIONAL LAW! Gee, and I thought Obama claimed to be a Constitutional lawyer...Oh, that's right...he was disbarred (and we, as the American public, are not even allowed to know why). Sad.

Lisa, first Obama has passed a budget before, although not since the republicans took the house.

Second, the ryan budget is not specific. It claims 5 trillion dollars reduction in debt offset by 5 trillion dollars in loophole and deductions. Romney and Ryan hav failed to say what tax deductions or loopholes they would cut. There saying, will fix the economy, but when asked how it's wait until we're elected.

Lisa just to let you know congress is mostly responsible for passing a budget. They "hold the purse strings" as laid out in the constitution. One of the flaws with the constitution is that this process is not really very clear. The president makes a request/suggestion but it is not the executive branch that is responsible for the budget.

The O admin did pass the Budget Control Act because of bipartisan committee was unable to agree on a budget (that gets presented to congress like legislation I believe). It basically says that if congress will not agree on a budget by (it was january but I think it got pushed further) then there will be equal and huge cuts to each portion of spending.

He was not debarred.

Ryan's budget would never be approved by congress, so it does not really count as a "fall back."

Jacob, were you this concerned about specific details when Obama was out there saying "Hope and Change" without any details being given or asked for by the media? Actually, since the Republicans took over the House, they sent numerous bills to the senate, but Harry Reid didn't even allow them to the floor - so who is holding things up?

Jacob, A budget was passed in April of 2009 with bi-partisan support. However, since then, NO budget has been passed...and let me remind you that the Democrat party held a super majority and NO Republican could have stopped a single bill or budget from being passed in 2010. So stop blaming Republicans for the failure of this president and administration. Secondly, I would like to point out to you that several budgets have passed the House of Representatives in 2010, 2011, and 2012. The reason they have not been enacted into law is because Harry Reid, the Democrat majority leader of the Senate, will not allow them to come to the floor for a vote! AGAIN...It's the Democrats stopping a budget from being passed. Whether you like it or not, all of this is a matter of Congressional record, and anyone who cares to take the time can look it up on the Federal Gov't/ Congressional websites. Look, I don't mind people expressing their opinions, but those opinions should at least be based on facts.

How come when Biden jumps all over Ryan, he is being rude, bullying, and disrespectful, but when Romney jumps all over Obama he is being aggressive, forceful, and showing leadership?

I was thinking the same thing. I think the lack of comments on this thread might have something to do with the majority feeling Biden won. If Ryan had slaughtered Biden there would be 100+ comments by now despite the Steeler game.

Personally, I think Martha Raddatz won. She was really great at cutting off both of those guys when they started going off on the same old accusatory tangents.

Lisa, you and Airdoc don't have the facts. Harry Reid allowed the house budget plan to come for a vote. It failed.
http://www.californiahealthline.org/articles/2012/5/17/senate-rejects-several-republicansupported-fy-2013-budget-plans.aspx
The senate has been unable to pass a budget because the GOP won't let Harry Reid bring up the democrats proposal for a vote. Also, it's very tough to pass a budget when you have an entire party promising to never raise taxes under any circumstances. The point of democracy is to compromise, but that's impossible when the GOP won't even consider tax increases.
