Where to Get Free Coffee for National Coffee Day 2012

Get your caffeine on and celebrate with a free cup of coffee.

--

If the first words out of your mouth every morning are, “I’ll have a large coffee”—or if you can’t even speak until after you’ve had your java fix—there's a national holiday created especially for you.

America will put staunch tea drinkers to shame on National Coffee Day on Saturday, Sept. 29, when coffee fiends can rejoice and celebrate their beloved coffee bean with free brew from national chains.

Where can you get free coffee in the Sewickley area?

McDonald's

McDonald's is giving away free 12-ounce coffees every day from Sept. 23 through Sept. 29. No purchase is necessary, and coffee will be available in the drive-through or in the restaurants.

Which McDonald's restaurants are in or close by?

In Moon Township, McDonald's is located on Beaver Grade Road.

Other locations close by:

1010 4th Ave., Coraopolis

10529 Perry Highway, Wexford;

7702 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh;

4849 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh;

7-Eleven

It’s CofFREE Day at 7-Eleven, which means a free large coffee for anyone who stops by a participating 7-Eleven store between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sept. 28.

The closest 7-Eleven locations we could find to Sewickley include:

  • 7-Eleven, 5610 William Flynn Highway, Gibsonia (across the street from Giant Eagle).
  • Brodhead Road in Coraopolis
  • Grand Ave & Von Stein in Pittsburgh

Krispy Kreme

If you don't mind a long drive, Krispy Kreme is offering one free 12-ounce House Blend Coffee per customer at participating stores on Sept. 29, with no purchase necessary.

The closest store is at 14 Trinity Point Drive in Washington, PA.

The company is also holding a contest in conjunction with its 75th anniversary. Participants will have a chance to win two free bags of coffee per month for the next year.

Coffee was first brought to America in the mid-1600s in a shipment en route to “New Amsterdam,” now known as New York, according to the National Coffee Association. We have that shipment and the Boston Tea Party to thank for turning the nation into coffee drinkers.

What’s your favorite blend, and where do you get it? Tell us in the comments.

Starbucks is offering some specials. From now until Nov. 12, if you buy a coffee traveler, you will get a $5 gift card. And starting on Sept. 27 until Sept. 30, if you buy one pack of k-cups you'll get one free.

There is also a 7-Eleven on Grand Avenue on Neville Island, not far from the RMU sports complex.
