Since its debut in 1934, Anything Goes has proven to be one of the most enduring musical comedies of all time. Quaker Valley High School will present the classic musical from Thursday, April 11 to Saturday, April 13, and it's not too late to buy tickets. Tickets will be sold today in the high school gym lobby from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and on Wednesday and Thursday at the same time and place. You can download the ticket order form online. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens, with all seats reserved. Orders will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're looking to take a break from the busy world, Sweetwater Center for the Arts offers several opportunities to have a girls night out. Girls Night Out classes are a chance to socialize in a fun environment with the ladies. Friends can bring wine and snacks, and spend some time creating art projects and letting their creative juices flow. All Girls’ Night Out classes are for ages 21 and up. Tuition is $30 for members and $45 for non-members. Swing into spring this weekend at St. James Parish. Music Plus, the free concert series at St. James Church, presents "Swing Into Spring" with the Maureen Budway Quartet. The performance is 3 p.m. Sunday in the church sanctuary at 200 Walnut St., Sewickley. Maureen Budway, one of the jazz icons of Pittsburgh, will bring her quartet for the 50-minute-long concert with no intermission. The quartet includes Daniel May on piano, Tony DePaolis on bass and Thomas Wendt on drums. The concert will be preceded by a "pre-concert" at 2:30 of The Three Amigos, a trio of Quaker Valley elementary musicians, directed by Chris Burgh, which will be 20-minutes in length. Seven seniors are recognized by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.
Seven Quaker Valley High School seniors were recognized for outstanding artwork by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The nonprofit organization that recognizes teens for exceptional talent recently announced the Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards of 2013. Senior Laura Schumacher was awarded a Gold Key for her portfolio. Ben Bartling, Molly Johnson, Megan Youngblood and Garrett Powell earned Silver Keys; and Colleen Barenick and Mathilda Savocchia received Honorable Mention. All seven seniors are enrolled in advanced placement studio art with Jeremy Pidhirny and Robin Russell, who called it "a remarkable achievement for young artists.” The award-winning artwork was selected from among about 2,100 submissions from …

The Internet craze catches on with students doing their own version of the viral video.
Sewickley Academy students are the latest group to get in on the Harlem Shake — a dance craze that has gone viral on the Internet. If you’re unfamiliar with the Harlem Shake, it’s a song by DJ-producer Baauer. The viral videos start with one person in a costume dancing while the people around him continue what they are doing, seemingly oblivious. About 15 seconds in, the video cuts to an entire room filled with people in various costumes and props jamming along. The videos have tallied up hundreds of millions of hits on YouTube. The Norwegian army’s version alone is at more than 55 million views. The original version was created in the 1980s and popularized in the ‘90s by music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. Sewickley Academy Senior School students will present the musical, Mame, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 through Saturday March 9 in Rea Auditorium. Mame is based on the 1955 novel Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis and a 1956 Broadway play by Lawrence and Lee that starred Rosalind Russell. Set in New York and spanning the Great Depression and World War II, it focuses on eccentric bohemian, Mame Dennis, whose life is interrupted when the son of her late brother is sent to live with her. Mame teaches Patrick the importance of individuality and of living life to the fullest as they cope with the Depression through a series of adventures. The musical is free and open to the public.
