Car Emergency Essentials

Q: I loved your newsletter on national preparedness month- thank you.  What suggestions can you offer in this regard for my car?

A:  So glad you liked the newsletter, I've attached it for those who are not on my email list and in the wake of Hurricane Sandy- it certainly bears repeating.

Most cars have some basic emergency supplies like jumper cables and a spare tire but what if you are stranded overnight?  I suggest an emergency tote that can be stored in your trunk.

Here's what you may want to include:

-An extra pair of sneakers and socks in case you get stranded in your dress shoes

-Power flare

-Bottles of water

-Car charger for cell phone

-Blanket

-Protein bars

-Flashlight ( leave batteries out until you use it)

-Tire repair essentials

-First Aid essentials

Use masking tape to mark a date on your emergency tote and refresh your supplies when necessary.

Being prepared for an emergency is like insurance - you hope you will never need to use it but if you do, you are so grateful to have it.
