Join Sweetwater this winter for Reiki: The Usui System of Natural Healing. Reiki is an ancient form of energy healing rediscovered in the 1920’s in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui. The word “Rei-Ki” stands for “universal life force energy”. This is a nonsectarian and nondenominational healing art and it is available to people of all ages and backgrounds. Reiki is currently the most in-demand energy healing modality in the United States and around the world. It uses non-invasive gentle touch; accelerates the body’s natural healing processes; supports mental and emotional healing; and gives an overall sense of profound well-being. It is utilized in hospitals, hospices, spas, wellness centers and private settings. In order to learn Reiki one must receive a series of attunements from a Reiki Master. Sweetwater currently offers three levels of Reiki. For more information, visit www.sweetwaterartcenter.org!

Sweetwater Center for the Arts provides arts education and cultural programming for Sewickley and surrounding communities.  Sweetwater offers more than 400 art classes and workshops annually to children and adults in addition to summer camps for children and youth. There is a fee for most courses; however, scholarships are available to those demonstrating financial need. The center also presents live performances by some of Pittsburgh’s brightest musicians (Sweet Jazz Series in February; Summer Music Series in June) and art exhibitions in its Balcony Gallery open to the public for viewing free of charge.  Every October and November, the center presents the MAVUNO Festival of African American Art & Culture, which includes performances, music, exhibitions and numerous other free events.  Sweetwater's annual Holiday mART—a week-long sale of handcrafted gifts in a variety of media—begins right after Thanksgiving.
