Sewickley Cafe Hosts Reception for Long Time Business owners Leo & Lois Moss

Our family recently returned to Sewickley on a sunny Sunday after having been gone for many years. Driving down Beaver, we found the town to be even more charming than we remember.  Our purpose in returning was to attend a memorial for our father, Leo Moss, who died last year. Gene Klein, Carol Perkovich, and Bett Roberts organized a reception in his honor.  Don Reinhardt welcomed over 50 people to his Sewickley Cafe, a perfect location given the Cafe had been home to our parents’ United Men’s Store and Soccer Shop for a dozen years.  Don was happy to open his doors to the Moss family and friends, who enjoyed a buffet that included the “Leo Reuben” and “Lois Veggie Wrap,"both still on the Cafe’s menu today.  Everyone shared stories about both our dad and our mom, Lois, in the room where for years people came not just to buy clothes, soccer shoes, uniforms, and brightly colored sweaters, but to sit awhile and chat.
Our dad was known as Mr. Soccer, having been named Man of the Year in 1986 by the Sewickley Herald for his work in creating Sewickley Area Soccer. It was gratifying that many of our dad’s former players came to let us know how important Leo’s lessons were to them--both in soccer and life.. Although we three siblings have moved away in our separate journeys,  we know our family will always remain together as a part of Sewickley. That Sunday we saw the message on a bronze plaque placed under a tree on Walnut Street: “Leo and Lois Moss. They touched so many lives in so many wonderful ways, they live in our hearts forever.”  Thank you Sewickley for this tribute.
Sincerely,  Linda Moss Baude, Janis Moss Light, Ray Moss
