5 Things to Know This Week

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Voter Registration Deadline

Pennsylvania residents who wish to vote in the upcoming May 21 primary elections must be registered by today, April 22.  The Office of the Registration Commission in Room 609 of the County Office Building at 542 Forbes Ave. in downtown Pittsburgh will remain open until 5 p.m. to accept hand-delivered voter registration forms.  Registration-by-mail forms must be postmarked by today.

2. Town Hall Meeting

Youth Connect will host "It's No Big Deal... Right?," a town hall meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Quaker Valley Middle School auditorium. The meeting focuses on the problems associated with adolescent use of alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs, and what parents can do about the issue.

And speaking of drugs, the Sewickley and Sewickley Heights police departments will host the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, residents can drop off unused and old prescriptions at either 601 Thorn St. in Sewickley or 1901 Glen Mitchell Road in Sewickley Heights.

3. Family Juggling Night

The 10th annual family Juggling Night is set for 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 25  in the Quaker Valley Middle School auditorium. The event is free. 

4. Spring Gallery Walk 

The annual Spring Gallery Walk is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Various galleries in Sewickley will host a reception. The event is free and open to the public.

According to Explore Sewickley, the following galleries have exhibits planned: Sewickley Arts Initiative, Sewickley Public Library: ‘Pix & Pixels: Visions of Ireland’, Sweetwater: Small Shrines & Iceland Images, Sewickley Frame Shop, International Images: First Student Art Show, St. James Church and Clearview Federal Credit Union.

5. Jennifer O’Loughlin

International Opera Star Jennifer O’Loughlin will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28 as part of the monthly “Music Plus” concert series at St. James Church. The pre-concert is from 2:30 to 2:50 p.m. and will feature Matthew Boice, director of Quaker Valley High School ensemble. A free will offering will be accepted. Refreshments will be served.
