5 Things to Know This Week

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. The Carnival is Coming

The Leetsdale 4th of July Committee is bringing the Deshler Amusements Carnival to Henle Park for five days. Enjoy rides, games, and concessions starting Tuesday, June 25 through Saturday, June 29.

2. 'Growing Fig Trees' Class

Learn everything you've always wanted to know about growing fig trees. Start with a short lecture at Penguin Bookshop then visit Michele Vaccaro and his trees before heading to Tommaso and Tommasina’s to see theirs.  You’ll learn about growing in containers and in the ground and also learn a variety of ways to care for them during the winter. Class size is limited to 15. Cost is $40 for the two hour class, from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. Saturday June 29. Reservations required. Click here to learn more.

3. Support the Needy

The Sewickley Valley YMCA is helping to stock the shelves of Center for Hope with jelly. This month the YMCA is collecting jelly for the shelter to help provide food to those in need. Items can be dropped off at the membership desks. Contact Barb at 412-741-9622 ext. 131 with any questions.

4. Chris Vipond and the Stanley Street Band

Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy a night of extremely funky roots rock from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 28 at Wolcott Park, the gazebo at Beaver and Broad streets. In case of rain, the free concert will be held at Sweetwater Center for the Arts.
