CROP Walk Takes Strides to End Hunger

The annual walk, which was held Sunday, helps to raise funds to combat hunger at home and abroad.

The mild autumn weather made Sunday a perfect day for a walk.

Participants in the annual “Five Boro” CROP Walk made the afternoon trek in the name of fighting hunger. The 5.5-mile walk took participants along Beaver Road from in Glen Osborne to the Center For Hope in Ambridge.

The walk, sponsored by Church World Service, helps to raise funds that will be used to end hunger here and around the world. About one-fourth of proceeds raised will go to local .

CROP began in 1946 as an arm of the Church World Service known as the Christian World Outreach Program. The interfaith program now stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty and includes various denominations.

Participating churches included the Presbyterian, Church, Sewickley, , Beth Samuel Jewish Center, Ambridge United Methodist Church and Rochester First United Methodist Church.
