Five Things to Do Before School Starts

As summer winds down, we're here to help you check everything off of your to-do list and suggest a few ideas for some last-minute summer fun.

1. Finish your summer reading

If you've slacked this summer on your summer reading assignments, fear not.  is still stocked with books required for both Quaker Valley and Sewickley Academy students. 2. Attend Last Family Fun Night of the Summer at RMU Island Sports Complex

The RMU Island Sports Complex has hosted a Family Fun Night every Friday night since June. This Friday, Aug. 26, will be the last one of the summer, so you don't want to miss it. The cost is $10 per person and includes a round of mini golf, ice skating and rental skates, and a snack. Click here for more details.  

3. Load up on School Supplies

This year, while you're shopping for school supplies, consider buying a few extras for children in our area whose parents can't afford them.  From now through Sept. 2, is hosting a . The office will offer half-price massages to those who bring a bag of school supplies to donate.   

4. Make a Pact to Pack Healthy Lunches

Just because kids are heading back to school doesn't mean fresh summer produce is going out of season. Visit the produce section of the grocery store or the to let your kids choose healthy options to pack in their school lunches. 

5. Take in a Ball Game

The Pirates are taking on the Milwaukee Brewers four times this week at PNC Park. Two games are scheduled for Monday, Aug. 22, one on Tuesday, Aug. 23, and one on Wednesday, Aug. 24. Click here to see a full schedule or to purchase tickets.
