Five Things You Need to Know This Week

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Quaker Valley High School Winter Concert

Get into the holiday spirit with sounds from the Quaker Valley High School band and orchestra winter concert. The concert begins at 7 p.m. tonight (Monday) in the high school auditorium. 

2. Sewickley Council Committee Meeting

Sewickley Academy students will be there to give a presentation on their fifth annual Public Safety Pancake Breakfast. The committee-of-the-whole meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sewickley Municipal Building on Thorn Street.

3. Adults-Only Ginger Beer/Ale Soda Tasting

From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, Village Candy will stage another ginger tasting to check out the Bermudan Dark 'n Stormy and the former Soviet Moscow Mule.  The event features local professional mixologist Amanda from Sharp Edge who created a Sharp Edge Signature Ginger Cocktail specifically for this event. RSVP as space is limited. Must be 21.

4. Feast of the Seven Fishes

Join Fern Hollow Nature Center and the Italian Garden Project in a celebration of the Feast of the Seven Fishes from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12. Learn about this Italian Christmas Eve tradition, sample some of the seasonal delicacies and participate in a hands-on demonstration. Admission is $25 per person for members and $30 for non-members. 5. SAI Presents: Pretty Functional

An opening reception for the Sewickley Arts Initiative's "Pretty: FUNCTIONAL" runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at 419 Beaver St., the former Chico's space and continues 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. Featuring works made in glass, metals, plastics, ceramics and wood, all works in the exhibition are of the highest levels of craftsmanship including six Pittsburgh-area artists.
