Glen Oaks Girl Scouts Celebrate 100 Years

Sewickley mayor's proclamation declares Monday as Girl Scouting in Sewickley Day.

Sewickley Mayor Brian Jeffe presented the Glen Oaks Girl Scouts with a proclamation declaring Monday as Girl Scouting in Sewickley Day.

"I encourage all citizens to join in celebrating 100 years of service to our community," Jeffe said.

The proclamation was read to the Glen Oaks scouts as part of the 100th birthday celebration at the municipal building, joining the nationwide centennial celebration.

Leading up to the centennial, the local scouts tied green ribbons and trefoil to 100 trees marking the 100 years of Girl Scouting. Monday's ceremony included a color guard and the reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the Girl Scout Promise. The girls also sang two songs, "Make New Friends" and "On My Honor."

In conjunction with the special year, the girls camp theme this year is a birthday party. Glen Oaks scouts also have been working on various service projects.

Be sure to visit two window displays Troop 50863 members designed in the. The first highlights Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of USA. A second display shows women of the past and present and their connections to the Girl Scout Law. Troop 50863 members completed the displays to earn their aMuse Journey badges as Junior Girl Scouts.
