Hot Weather Prompts Extended Hours at Senior Centers

The National Weather Services reports today's 90-degree temperatures nearly reached the all-time record.

Today’s sticky temperatures may be hot, but they aren’t record setting, according to the National Weather Service in Moon Township.

Brad Rehak, meteorologist, said 93 degrees is the record temperature for May 31. But today’s mercury-raising high of 90 degrees-- which becomes official at 5:30 p.m. – barely missed the record-setting mark.

Still, the heat has prompted some senior centers in Allegheny County to extend hours today for older residents.

Rehak said temperatures by Wednesday should become cooler with highs in the mid- to lower-80s.

“You should notice the drier air coming in during the afternoon Wednesday, and Thursday should be a pleasant day with high temperatures in the lower 80s, above normal, with low humidity," Rehak said.

Tips for keeping cool are located on the Allegheny County Department of Human Services website.
