Learn Something New This Summer in the Sewickley Area
The time for summer classes and camps is just around the corner.
Summer is just a wish away, and it is already time to start planning. If you are looking for a camp for the kids, a new approach to sports training or artistic avenues for your own exploration, you will find classes for everyone.
Say goodbye to dull days, and sign up everyone in the household. Fun is right around the corner and goes on all summer long, but be sure to sign up now because classes fill up fast.

At the YMCA, there are day camps for three groups -- ages 3 to 6, 6 to 12, and 13 to 15. There will be five consecutive two-week camps from June 13 to Aug. 19. Most camps have a theme for the duration of the session. Non-sports camps focus more on the arts. All groups participate in games, and activities. All-day sessions are available. Little Linguists will offer a language immersion camp that simulates a foreign country. In Sewickley, a Spanish camp will teach children not only the language, but also information about Spain's geography, culture and more. Adult and private lessons are available from more than 40 linguists who can help the whole family learn something new or prepare for a vacation. Global Survivor camps are one-week long and held at Saint Andrew's on Beaver Street. If a drive to Cranberry or Wexford is not an issue, additional options there include Chinese, German, French and Hindu. Information is available here.
From June 13 to June 17 and July 11 to July 15, the Center for Young Musicians offers a half-day program for children ages 3 to 7. Offered in Sewickley and Wexford, the center's classes appeal to a child’s natural desire to learn about music through observation, experimentation and exploration. Learn more here.
For younger children in love with sound, Music Together classes run from April 7 to June 9 at Sweetwater Center for the Arts. The classes, offered by Lisa Rae Music Studio LLC, are for infants to age 5. The focus is early childhood music development, and everyone participates -- infants, parents and caregivers. Sweetwater Center for the Arts offers more than 500 classes a year. Summer classes focusing on such varied topics as painting, jewelry making, dance or culinary exploration are available. Classes are open for students age 3 to adult and are offered seven days a week. Order a Summer 2011 catalog, or register for most courses online.
Options at include exciting camps with such themes as dinosaurs or gardening for students age 4 and older. Older students may study pottery throwing, dance exploration, lacrosse and other options.
