Local Churches Plan Ash Wednesday Services
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season. Here are a list of services planned at area churches.
Lent is the season of reflection and fasting leading to Easter. Sewickley Patch brings you a list of area churches offering services on Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season.
- Sewickley United Methodist Church, 337 Broad St., will combine services with St. Matthews AME Church, which is undergoing renovations. There will be a dinner with St. Matthews at 6 p.m. followed by Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Mass at St. Mary's Church at 444 Glenfield Road, Aleppo will be celebrated at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Ashes will also be distributed at 1:30 p.m. at the Masonic Village. The stations of the cross will be at 7 p.m. Fridays in Lent.

- Ash Wednesday services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 616 Washington St., begin at 7 p.m. with Holy Communion. Services will continue to take place at 7 p.m. every Wednesday through Lent.
- Good Samaritan Church, 725 Glenwood Ave., Ambridge, will celebrate Ash Wednesday with prayer services at noon and 4 p.m. and Mass at 7 p.m. The stations of the cross will take place during Lent at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Fridays.

The Presbyterian Church, 414 Grant St., will observe Ash Wednesday at noon in the chapel and at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Each Wednesday beginning Feb. 29, congregants will gather for a soup supper in the Robinson Room, followed by programs for adults and children.

St. Stephens Church, 405 Frederick Ave., will observe Ash Wednesday with a 7 p.m. service in the sanctuary. The Lenten Dinner series will be on Wednesdays, starting Feb. 29, where a pot-luck supper will be shared starting at 6:30 p.m.; there will be speakers from inside and outside the parish. Bring a main dish, salad or dessert to share. Childcare will be provided after dinner.

St. Joseph Church, 1313 Fifth Ave., Coraopolis, will celebrate Ash Wednesday Mass at 8:30 a.m., noon and 7 p.m. The stations of the cross will follow the 7 p.m. Mass. Pittsburgh Catholic Bishop David Zubik will preside at the first stations this week.
