Sewickley area residents should be on the alert for anyone claiming to seek payment on behalf of Duquesne Light.
The company said callers falsely stating they are Duquesne Light representatives recently have been contacting customers.The individuals then tell the customers their service will be terminated immediately if payment isn’t provided at that time over the phone—either by credit car or prepaid debit card.
Don't believe them.
Jane Cuff, Duquesne Light’s director of customer contact, said the company never demands payment over the phone and does not require customers to purchase prepaid debit cards, including the Green Dot payment cards.
“If a customer receives one of these calls, we are asking that they get as much information from the caller as possible, contact their local police department as well as pass along the information to our customer service representatives by calling 1-888-393-7100,” Cuff said.
She also noted customers should never give any financial information out over the phone to someone they do not know.
