Beaver Street Fundraiser Exceeds Goals

When Beaver Street business neighbors Esthetics Salon and East Coast Sandwiches teamed up to raise money for a cancer charity, they hoped to raise $800. Turns out they exceeded that three-fold.

As many as 15 cancer patients will receive help in buying wigs, thanks to the hard work and generosity of those who joined a fundraiser on Beaver Street last weekend.

Owners and employees of Esthetics Salon and East Coast Sandwiches donated time and products to raise money for Hairpeace, an organization that gives financial assistance to those who need wigs as the result of cancer treatment.

Esthetics owner Ann Kukucka said she had hoped this first fundraiser would bring in "maybe $800", but the proceeds far exceeded that. The event raised about $2,300.

"Each person receives $150 to help pay for a wig," said Kukucka. Do the math and you find that Saturday's event will provide that help to 15 people.

Kukucka said she hopes to make the fundraiser an annual event.
