Snow Expected in Sewickley Area During Tuesday Morning Commute

A light snowstorm moving into the Pittsburgh area overnight could cause problems with the Tuesday morning rush hour commute.

Western Pennsylvania is expected to receive between a half-inch to just under an inch of snow by the time most people are waking up to head to work.

The National Weather Service in Moon Township has issued a winter storm warning lasting from 8 p.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday. 

Two to five inches of snow could accumulate throughout the day, with temperatures in the low-30s, according to the service. 

The service reports motorists could face snow-covered roads and limited visiblity. 

Dennis Sims, a meteorologist at Air Science Consultants in Bridgeville, said light is expected to move into the area around 2 a.m. Tuesday and won’t end until just after the morning rush hour.

“It should be just enough to make roads and bridge decks slippery,” Sims said of the Tuesday morning commute. “Just enough to be a pain in the butt.”

He is anticipating less snow the farther north you go and more snow in the south and east. Sims said the Uniontown area could get up to 2 inches of snow.

The temperature is expected to hover around 29 degrees during the early morning snowfall.
