Thanksgiving Day is Here: How Many Feasts Will You Attend?

As if eating one turkey weren't enough, many people will spend the day driving from one family dinner to another.

Holidays become complicated when you partner up with a significant other. And we're not talking about the tricky question of how much to spend on a gift that first Christmas.

No, we're talking about driving your sweetie or your whole gang from one side of town to another, to break bread and carve bird with both branches of the famiy tree.

Some families slice up the holiday pie, with one side taking Thanksgiving and the next taking Christmas. But who wants to not see the kids on Christmas—or on Thanksgiving for that matter? The only way around that is for the young ones to show up everywhere in one day, turning the holiday into a kind of whistlestop marathon campaign swing.

We've done two dinners in one day, separated by a 30-mile drive. That interlude is just about enough time to burn through Meal One and get hungry for Meal Two. That's hectic, but we've heard of families who have done four meals on one Thanksgiving, which seems insanely busy to us, not to mention fattening.

Of course, there's an upside for the wandering guest: the treat of sampling several groaning tables of food. But what about the cook who stays at home and waits? If you're part of a four-visit chain, the spacing would dictate that dinners are at 1, 3, 5, and 7. Each time slot has its own problems.

If you go last, you might follow a much better cook or two, and nobody want to  do that. If you're one of the middle hostesses, your traveling guests might not be very hungry.

The worst spot is probably the first, because who wants to get up at 7 a.m. to get the bird ready?

So tell us. Will you be eating more than one feast today?
