Ticking off the Time to Turkey Day: Bowing Our Heads

A Thanksgiving feast calls for an especially thoughtful prayer of gratitude. What will your family say for grace before the meal?

Say what you will about our perhaps silly tendency to stumble over Thanksgiving on our way to Christmas shopping. But when it comes time to acknowledge the meaning of Thanksgiving, we know whom to thank.

Before families sit down to dinner on Thursday, many will pause for a prayer of gratitude. Some will say the traditional God is Great, Good is Good...

Others, like my family, will say our traditional Bless us, Oh Lord, and these thy gifts ... with a little extra embellishment because it's a holiday.

What about your family? Do you have a traditional Thanksgiving grace? Have you ever tried going around the table so everyone can have a turn saying what he's thankful for? And how did that work out?

We'd love to hear about your grace traditions. And while you're at it, tell us what makes you thankful this year, if you'd like.

By the way, the young lady in the photo happens to be named Grace. That's not why we chose her for a snapshot, but it didn't hurt.
