5 Things to Know This Week: Pre-School Open House and Sewickley Series

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Pre-School Open House for Parents

Learn more about your options for pre-schools and day care centers in the Quaker Valley area. The annual Pre-School Open House runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 hosted by Sewickley Public Library. Representatives will be available from various facilities to provide information and answer questions about their programs. Fall registration for many of the schools starts in February. No registration is required.  

2. QV Boys Basketball Game

Quaker Valley boys basketball takes on Freedom Area Tuesday, Jan. 15 at home. The JV game is at 6 p.m. and the varsity game starts at 7:30 p.m. in the gym at Quaker Valley High School. 

3. Reiki Healing

Learn more about therapeutic touch and experience a relaxing, peaceful evening from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16 at the Sewickley Public Library. A $5 donation for this adult program is requested. No registration is needed.

4. The Sewickley Series: 'Heart of Jenin'

Sewickley Academy presents the Heart of Jenin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 in Rea Auditorium. The film features the story of Ahmed Chatib, a Palestinian boy shot by Israelis whose father decided, within 12 hours, to donate his son’s organs to six Israeli children to save their lives. Parental discretion is advised. Free. Click here to register.

5. Here & Now Exhibition

Here & Now Exhibition at Sweetwater Center for the Arts opens on Friday, Jan. 18 and runs through Feb. 23 The exhibit shows how selected artists envision their "here and now" and is juried by Barbara Westman, who has been a resident of Pennsylvania since 2002 when she moved from Poland. She's currently an assistant professor of fiber art and printmaking at Slippery Rock University.
