'American Idol' Finalist with Sewickley Ties Advances to the Next Round

Deandre Brackensick moves on to the top nine.

San Jose, Calif., native moved on, becoming one of the top nine finalists of "American Idol" Thursday night.

The 17-year-old with Sewickley ties appeared relieved last night to learn he was not in this week’s bottom three among the guys. He impressed the judges a day earlier with his Jamaican-flavored rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Master Blaster.”  

Brackensick’s great-grandmother is and his great-grandfather is Earl Cole of Ambridge.

 “You have rhythm, you have soul. I love what you did with that song; there was a weird little ending, maybe I just didn’t want it to end,” Jennifer Lopez told him.

Steven Tyler, who saved Brackensick on a noted the singer’s “Jamaican patois.”

“I really don’t know what that means but it sounds freakin' amazing and I’m going to take that as a compliment,” Brackensick told interviewers.

Jeremy Rosado was eliminated in the end. Last week, Adam Brock went home.

The Fox show airs again at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
