Prior to performing, Brackensick worked with music mentors Jimmy Iovine and P. Diddy, who told him to relax, smile and have fun. He also worked with designer Tommy Hilfiger on his style. Hilfiger complimented Brackensick’s signature wavy locks and voice, telling him he has a “perfect style.”

“He’s got a look already,” Hilfiger said.

But his singing and swagger didn’t translate as well with Randy Jackson, who said he thought Brackensick did an all-right job.

“I don’t know if it was great. It didn’t wow me, but it was OK,” Jackson said.

Brackensick told the cameras he felt good about his performance and had fun.

“Randy didn't like it as much, but you know, I can't please everybody,” he said.

The competition continues at 8 p.m. Thursday.
