Celebrity Chef Coming to Market District

By Becky Brindle

Alton Brown, host of Food Network’s award-winning television show Good Eats, will make a special appearance to discuss his successful career and his love of food at 11 a.m. on June 22 at Robinson Market District and 4 p.m. in Wexford.

Brown’s appearance is free to the public, however, tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Advance ticket registration is available online at marketdistrict.com

Growing up, Brown developed culinary skills from his mother and grandmother that he used later on in life “as a way to get dates” in college. As an adult, Brown spent 10 years dedicating his life as a cinematographer and video director. He soon realized he spent most of his spare time watching cooking shows that were boring and uninformative, and believed he could do better.

Brown left the film industry to pursue a culinary degree, and moved to Vermont to train at the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, VT. In 1999, he introduced his show Good Eats, a “smart and entertaining food show that blends wit with wisdom, history with pop culture, and science with common cooking sense.”

Brown writes, produces and stars in each episode. Brown has also written several cook books, including the winner of the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Cookbook in the reference category, “I’m Just Here for the Food.”

Brown is the resident food historian, scientist and commentator on the popular Food Network series Iron Chef America, as well as the host of Next Iron Chef. Good Eats is currently in its 15th season and has won Brown the 2011 James Beard Award for TV food personality/host.
