Film screening, TAPESTRIES OF HOPE

Meet 2009 CNN Hero (for protection of the powerless) Betty Makoni at a screening of the documentary, Tapestries of Hope.  This award-winning film by Michealene Risley exposes the myth, widely held in Africa, that raping a virgin cures a man of HIV.  In the voices of young girls and Makoni herself, it also details Makoni's struggles and triumphs in creating the Girl Child Network of shelters for abused girls.

The celebration of hope begins with appetizers and music at 6 p.m.  The film shows at 7 p.m. and there will be Q&A with Makoni afterward.

Tickets are $20. All proceeds from this all-volunteer event go to the Girl Child Network.  All of the event organizers are from neighborhoods, businesses, and churches in the Pittsburgh.
