Light and Space Art Exhibition

LIGHT AND SPACE ART EXHIBITION AT INTERNATIONAL IMAGES LTD.
Artwork Exhibition by Local Artist, Rex Chronister
Friday, March 2, 2012 6:00pm-9:00pm
International Images, ltd. invites the Pittsburgh community to experience the art event, “Light and Space; an Exploration of Metaphysics and Minimalism” with artworks by Pittsburgh artist, Rex Chronister, Friday, March 2, 2012 from 6:00 pm-9:00 pm.
Rex Chronister will be present to discuss his artistic process and philosophy.
Following in the Pittsburgh tradition, Rex worked as a steel worker in a local steel mill from 1975 to 1982 while his artistic progression developed. His body of work, dating back to 1973, explores a wide range of topics including spiritually, metaphysics, commercialism, Jim Morrison, Led Zeppelin and pop culture. The beauty of this exhibit is in the elegant simplicity juxtaposed with Rex’s outlook on the humor of life, spirituality, chaos and science. Rex’s visual style and innate ability to realistically paint the cosmos is striking. The stars imitate photos taken by the Hubble Space telescope.
Rex paints in oils and acrylic, on canvas and board with hits of collage.
“Light and Space” is born from a mixture of opposing artistic movements and influences, highly reminiscent of abstract expressionistic art, pop art, and minimalism.
Rex Chronister’s collection requests the spectator to accept the reductive simplicity in artworks such as “Stars and Stripes”, an image of an American flag with the stars and stripes painted perfectly, including an image of the cosmos in place of the flag’s stars. In contrast, “Inner Space”, is the human desire for metaphysical understanding, as the image displays human eyes peering through space, surrounded by primary geometric lines and shapes. “Satisfaction” is a canvas shot with a shotgun, a metaphor expressing Rex’s frustration with art, life and success.
The exhibition will continue through May of 2012.
