Sewickley Series: Holiday Music from Around the World

Academy strings teacher Jhonnatan Mata and his talented string quartet, along many student musicians, will celebrate the season with a lively concert of holiday music from around the globe.

The Mata String Quartet was formed in 2001 when the members were placed together in the chamber music program at Duquesne University. The group participated in master classes, recitals, and educational outreach programs sponsored by the University. In 2003, the quartet was featured at the Uptown Theater Concert Series in Washington, PA. In the past five years, they have performed in churches located around Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. In addition, the group performs and runs master classes in the Pine-Richland School District and teaches in the district’s summer orchestra program. The quartet has a full repertoire of chamber music, including contemporary Latin American music.
