Sylvia Pamboukian

This book uncovers the sometimes astonishing overlap between medical professionals and medical quacks. Although the modern medical profession came of age in the 19th century, this period also witnessed rampant (and often bizarre) forms of quackery, from body snatching to patent medicines to odd mechanical devices which promised health and happiness.
About the Dr. Pamboukian: Trained in both pharmacy and Victorian studies, Sylvia A. Pamboukian is currently an associate professor of English at Robert Morris University. Always interested in literature and science, Dr. Pamboukian was a writer for the NPR show "A Moment of Science" and recently presented at the National Library of Medicine's exhibit on Renaissance medicine in the Harry Potter novels.
