Fall Gallery Walk and Music Fest to Bring 30 Artists and Musicians to Sewickley

Artists' receptions kick off the event Friday night in the Village.

It will be a busy weekend in when the local art galleries, shops and restaurants open their doors for the annual Sewickley Fall Gallery Walk and Music Fest.

There will be artists receptions from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, and the festival continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The free event includes free metered parking starting at 3 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday. Beaver Street will be closed to vehicle traffic during this time.

Jim Price, president of the Sewickley Valley Chamber of Commerce and owner of , said that The Gallery Walk and Music Fest is a long-standing tradition for Sewickley.

“I know we have been doing it for at least 17 or 18 years,” he said, “It’s a lot of fun.”

The walk and festival is a self-guided event that encourages visitors to stop by the galleries and retail shops and spaces in the heart of the Village of Sewickley. Many of the artists will be present to answer questions and discuss their artwork.

Price said one of the best aspects of the walk is having the artists right there to interact with festival-goers.

“You can see the work from a number of different artists and actually meet the artists,” he said.

Many of the shops and galleries, including Price’s Cuttings, will have refreshments and special displays.

“We are hosting ‘Harvest House,’ an installation of seasonal artwork and displays,” Price said.

There will be three outdoor stages for musical performances. Scheduled entertainment includes The Terrance Vaughn Trio, Shawna Roxanne, Bailey Park, Broken Fences and .

The variety of artwork is impressive with more than 30 artists represented, Price said.

Visitors will be able to view Richard Snodgrass' photo display titled “An Uncommon Field: The Flight 93 Temporary Memorial. Snodgrass took a series of photos over two-and-a-half years of the crash site of . The display will be at the

International Images will have a collection of Cuban artist Eduardo “Choco” Roca Slazar's work, and the Sewickley Arts Initiative will present “Rococo Minimalism,” an installation of Martin Prekop's work; he is a professor of art at Carnegie Mellon University. The artwork will be displayed in the former Chico's space.

Numerous other artists will also have works on display throughout the festival.

 will present the “ Traveling Art Gallery.” CMU sponsors the project, which features young people from a seven-county region who tell their hopes and dreams through mixed-media artwork.

On Saturday, several artists will be creating pastel portraits at the festival.

“The festival is just a great way to see local art for free in small settings,” Price said.
