Maple Sugaring Celebration and Pancake Breakfast

When/Where: 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Fern Hollow Nature Center, 1901 Glen Mitchell Road, Sewickley Heights.
Why Go: Enjoy a breakfast of traditional or buckwheat pancakes, sausage and a drink. Learn the traditions and history of maple sugaring. Children’s activites, raffles and more.

Admission: Outdoor activities are free. Breakfast for member is $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 3-12; Non-member $9 for adults and $7 for children ages 3-12. Call 412-741-6136 or click here to register.
When/Where: 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Sewickley Public Library.
Why Go: Watch Anne of Green Gables in the community room as she adjusts to life in the close knit town of Avonlea. This story has captured hearts of all ages through the years since first written by Lucy Maud Montgomery over a century ago. Rated G.
Admission: Free.
When/Where: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Moon Township Library.
Why Go: Help divide up 30 varieties of seeds for all to share. Broccoli, beets, beans, lettuce, squash, herbs, chard, radishes, tomatoes, melons and many more. Mostly organic and only non-GMO seeds were chosen.

Artist Reception: Student and Instructor Exhibition
When/Where: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1 at Sweetwater Center for the Arts.
Why Go: Each year, Sweetwater reserves its gallery to showcase the talent of its students and its instructors. All students and instructors from 2012 are invited to participate in this exhibition. Show runs through March 29.
Admission: Free.
City Theatre Playwriting Workshop
When/Where: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 3 at the Sewickley Public Library.
Why Go: Are you a teen who loves to be on stage? Want to learn more about writing for stage? Join the Sewickley Library and Pittsburgh City Theatre for a fun introduction to playwriting. Learn the basics and get some ideas for a script you could submit to the City Theatre Young Playwrights Contest.
Admission: Free. Registration required. This program is for teens in grades 6 through 12.
