Get Out: Pancake Breakfast, Winter Beer Tasting and a Movie

1. A Place in the Sun

When/Where: 2 to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at the Sewickley Public Library.  

Why Go: Spend an afternoon at a movie. A Place in the Sun is about a poor boy gets a job working for his rich uncle and ends up falling in love with two women. (1951, 122min, NR) Adult program. No registration is necessary. 

Admission: Free

2. St. James Parish Pancake Breakfast

When/Where: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20 in the cafeteria at St. James School. 

Why Go: Pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs,will be served along with coffee, tea and orange juice will be served. Proceeds benefit the St. James School eighth-grade class.

Admission: Adults are $5, children under 5 are $3


3. Sewickley Owl Prowl

When/Where: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18 at Fern Hollow Nature Center in Sewickley Heights. 

Why Go: Get out into the nighttime air and talk to the owls. The owl prowls are led by members of Fern Hollow Nature Center’s environmental education staff.

Admission: $4 members/ $7 non-members. Geared for ages 9 and up. Registration is limited. You must call 412-741-7536. 


4. Winter Beer Tasting

When/Where: 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at .

Why Go: Kick off the Pens season with a beer-tasting tailgate. The tasting includes 12 beer samples, an appetizer plate, a four-pack to take home, and some giveaways, plus demonstrations, activities, contests and pet adoptions. The event benefits the Animal Rescue League

Admission: Tickets are $25 plus tax. Call 412-741-0300 for more information. 


5. DJ at Patrick's

When/Where: 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at Patrick's Pub, 1207 Spring Run Road Ext, Moon Township.

Why Go: The DJ will be rocking the house and taking your requests.
