Music Plus to Host Gospel Choir at St. James Church

Down By the Wayside Choir of Louisville performs at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. James in Sewickley.

The Music Plus Concert Series at St. James Church in Sewickley will host its third concert in the series on Sunday.

Music Plus will present a message of hope and deliverance with a performance by the "Down By the Wayside Choir."

This choir represents Wayside Christian Mission, a multi-service ministry in Louisville, KY. Members of the gospel choir have experienced the mission's recovery program for addictions, and present vibrant songs and stories of deliverance and transformation, according to Music Plus.

The choir is under the direction of Virginia Taylor, who also heads the mission's recovery program and the women's and family shelter. Wayside Christian Mission remains as one of Louisville's main safety nets.  It provides food and shelter for the homeless, transitional aid for men, women, and families, and recovery options for the addicted.  The mission offers educational and counseling opportunities for all ages, and permanent supportive housing to those who qualify.

The choir will accept the free-will offering as their only payment for this concert, so audience members are asked to please come with a generous heart, and with hands ready to clap along.

A pre-concert begins at 2:30 p.m., featuring the string students of Joyce Wohlgemuth and Younga Reitz.  Come early to support the young musicians, and then stay for a one-of-a-kind concert by the Down By the Wayside Choir

A reception will follow in the gathering space of the church to meet all the musicians and singers.
