Sewickley Fans Will Soon Discover 'Idol' Contestant's Fate

"American Idol" watchers rooting for the 17-year-old with Sewickley ties will know Thursday night if he makes it to the final 10 singers.

“American Idol” fans will have to wait until Thursday night to find out if contestant Deandre Brackensick lands in the popular reality show’s final 10.

Brackensick’s performance of “Endless Love” on Wednesday's two-hour show didn’t get much love from the judges.

Jennifer Lopez praised 17-year-old for his singing talents, but said she didn’t think he chose the right song.

During an interview on the show, Brackensick’s parents, Dawn and Scot, spoke about his gift, which started at age 2 when he sang along to music on the radio from his car seat and memorized all the lines and moves to "Music Man." They knew he had something at age 4 when he sang at a graduation.

Singers were to pick songs from the year they were born and Brackensick’s first song choice, "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," was discouraged by mentors Jimmy Iovine and will.i.am.

“It’s got to be the right tool for you,” will.i.am said.

Randy Jackson gave perhaps the harshest criticism, telling Brackensick his performance “was very boring” and safe, and “paled in comparison” to the Mariah Carey and Luther Vandross version released in 1994. Jackson was booed while telling Brackensick he had to show excitement in his songs.

“We can tell you didn’t feel that song,” Jackson said.

Brackensick explained that he went through a long day of trying to find the right pick and was “dreading” this performance. Whether he goes onto the contestant Jermaine Jones was disqualified) or goes home will be revealed during Thursday night’s episode after fans vote.
